Invite your team
In one sentence
Invite teammates by email and give each one a role that controls exactly what they can see and do.
Before you start
- You need to be an Owner or Admin to invite people or change roles.
The six roles at a glance
MsgBuddy has six roles, from most to least powerful. Pick the smallest role that lets someone do their job.
| Role | Think of them as… | Can do | Cannot do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Owner | The business owner | Everything, including billing and deleting the workspace | — (full control) |
| Admin | A manager / operations lead | Everything operational: team, settings, campaigns, templates | Delete the workspace; see Billing (Owner-only) |
| Supervisor | A team lead | Oversee & assign chats, view analytics, view templates & contacts | Author templates, run campaigns, change settings |
| Agent | A front-line responder | Handle their own conversations, message, view contacts, manage tasks | See analytics, assign to others, run campaigns |
| Auditor | A read-only reviewer | Read conversations, view & export contacts and analytics | Send anything or make changes |
| Viewer | A quiet stakeholder | Read conversations, contacts, tasks | Templates, campaigns, commerce, sending |
This is the quick version. The complete permission grid — every capability × every role — is in Reference → Roles & permissions matrix.
How roles shape what people see
Roles don’t just block actions — they hide whole menu items. An Agent simply won’t see Campaigns or Settings in their sidebar. So if a teammate says “I can’t find X,” the answer is usually their role.
Step by step
Open Team Members
Go to Settings → Team Members (the link Settings → Team takes you to the same place).
Invite by email
Click Invite, enter the person’s email address, and choose their role. Send it.
They accept the invite
Your teammate gets an email with an Accept invite link. When they click it, they either sign in (if they already have an account) or create one, and they’re added to this workspace with the role you chose.
Adjust roles any time
Back in Team Members, you can change a role or remove someone. Changes take effect immediately.
Give Owner and Admin sparingly — they can change settings and (for Owner) touch billing. For most people who just answer chats, Agent is the right role.
How this connects
- Roles gate every chapter. When a chapter says “you need Owner/Admin,” this is why.
- Presence & assignment in the Inbox use these roles: only Supervisors and above can assign a chat to someone else; Agents claim chats for themselves.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Invite email didn’t arrive | Ask them to check spam; re-send from Team Members. |
| ”This invite is for a different email” | The invite is tied to the exact address you entered — invite their real address, or have them accept while signed in as it. |
| Teammate can’t see Campaigns/Settings | Their role is below Admin — that’s expected. Change their role if needed. |
