Autopay (Razorpay mandate)
In one sentence
With autopay, a customer sets up a one-time mandate through Razorpay, and MsgBuddy can then top up their wallet automatically when it runs low — so deliveries never stop for want of a manual payment.
What a “mandate” is
A mandate is the customer’s standing permission for approved automatic charges — like an auto-pay instruction for a bill. The customer authorises it once (through Razorpay’s secure flow); after that, top-ups can happen without them lifting a finger.
Razorpay is a popular Indian payments provider. Autopay uses Razorpay’s mandate system, so this feature is aimed at businesses collecting payments in India (₹). You connect your Razorpay account in Subscriptions → Settings.
The mandate lifecycle
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pending | Set up, awaiting approval |
| Active | Approved — auto top-ups can run |
| Halted | Paused after a problem (e.g. failed charge) |
| Cancelled | Ended — back to manual top-ups |
How autopay fits the wallet
When the wallet balance drops below the threshold and an active mandate exists, MsgBuddy triggers an automatic top-up instead of just nudging the customer:
Setting it up
- Connect your Razorpay account in Subscriptions → Settings.
- Customers are offered autopay during (or after) subscribing.
- Once their mandate is Active, top-ups run automatically as needed.
Offer autopay but never force it. Some customers love “set and forget”; others prefer topping up manually. Supporting both — autopay and WhatsApp top-up reminders — keeps everyone happy and your deliveries uninterrupted.
How this connects
- Autopay tops up the wallet that pays for cycles.
- It’s configured alongside your storefront in Subscriptions → Settings.
